Below are a few of our most common questions we get at the studio. Click on the question to see our answer. If you have a question that’s not on this list, fill out our contact form at the bottom of the page and we will get back to you as soon as possible! We would love to welcome you to the West Tampa Dance Family!
My child has never danced before. I’m not sure which class would be the best fit. What do you recommend?
Our Tots level classes are designed for our youngest dancers aged 3-5. If your child is 5+ we offer Beginner through Advanced classes and we will work with you to find the right fit! Send us an email or stop by the studio so we can discuss your child’s interests.
How do I register my child to dance?
You can register online here or you can come into the studio to register in person with us! Once you register, we will review your registration form and email an invoice that can be paid online to finalize enrollment.
Our last day to register is January 31st. We encourage enrolling at the start of the season as our teachers work with our dancers to build upon skills over the course of the entire year.
Can my child try a class to see if they like it?
Yes! We offer one free trial class for all of our dancers. If they would like to try additional classes, they can drop-in to other classes for only $20 per class!
How long is the season?
Our season runs from August-June. We follow the Hillsborough County School calendar for most closings.
Is there a dress code?
We do enforce a dress code in all of our classes. A dress code allows our teachers to ensure dancer’s have adequate mobility and are implementing the technique being taught. It also promotes an environment of professionalism and focus for the dancers. Please check out our Curriculum page for class specific dance attire.
Can parents watch class?
Parents are invited into the studios during our dedicated Parent Observation Weeks that happen three times a year! Parents and other family members will also have the opportunity to watch their dancer perform at our annual end-of-the-season recital in June!
My child wants to be in the competition program - how does that work?
Our Competition Program is for students who have a serious interest in advancing their technique and performance skills. Competition students are required to train at least three times a week, participate in dance conventions, and compete in several competitions a year in the Tampa Bay area.
Students must audition to be a part of the competition program. Competition auditions are held at the end of our Spring season. Not only do we look at your audition but we also take into consideration students’ previous attendance, their commitment to practicing outside of the studio, their respect for other students and teachers, their level of technique, and their overall passion for dance.
Here at West Tampa Dance Company, we know that competition teams can become “toxic” and create a highly competitive environment between peers. We are firmly committed to creating an uplifting environment that trains hardworking dancers to become better versions of themselves. Our philosophy when it comes to competition dance is that the only individual a dancer should compare themselves to is the dancer they used to be.
Do you have a recital or performance?
Yes, we host one recital at the end of our season in June. Our dancers perform in a professional theater, where they have the opportunity to demonstrate all the skills they’ve learned over the season.
How much are classes?
Our 45-minute classes that are designed for our youngest dancers aged 3-5 are just $55/month and our 60-minute classes in the Beginner-Advanced levels are just $70/month. We do offer discounted bundle pricing for dancers attending multiple classes. Please contact us for full details.
Do you offer private lessons?
